The Craft Behind Our Knives

Every Cain & Abel knife is made by hand.
From raw steel to a finished blade.

Watch How They Are Crafted
Stage 1

Forging

Every knife starts as a bar of high carbon steel, heated in a coal forge and shaped under a power hammer. The blacksmith works the steel by hand, drawing out each blade's profile through repeated heating and hammering. No CNC. No laser cutting. Every blade is forged individually.

Stage 2

Heat Treatment / Hardening

The blade is reheated in a coal forge for differential hardening. The edge is hardened for sharpness while the spine stays softer for flexibility and strength. The kurouchi finish forms naturally here. Black oxide scale from the fire. No paint. No coating. Just heat and steel.

Stage 3

Handmade Handle

Each handle is carved from padauk wood and hand planed until there are no rigid edges left. Just smooth, comfortable wood that sits naturally in your grip. Once shaped, the handle is coated in shellac. A natural finish that seals the grain and stands up to daily kitchen use. The tang is glued into the handle, locking blade and wood together as one solid piece. Every knife different. Every grain unique. Every one shaped start to finish by hand.

The Final Step

Sharpening

Every blade is hand ground to form the edge. Each one checked for shape, finish and thickness. Then the edge is refined by hand on a whetstone. A polished edge that cuts cleaner, stays sharper for longer. Every knife is ready to use straight out of the box.
