How Each Knife Is Crafted

Forged Carbon Steel

Every knife starts as a bar of high carbon steel, its roughly shaped then heated in a coal forge and shaped under a power hammer by hand. No CNC, no laser cutting. Each blade is forged individually.

Heat-Treated for Performance

Each blade is differentially heat-treated to bring out the best in the steel. The edge is hardened for sharpness and retention, while the spine stays softer so it flexes under pressure instead of snapping.

Handcrafted Handle

Each blade is differentially heat-treated to bring out the best in the steel. The edge is hardened for sharpness and retention, while the spine stays softer so it flexes under pressure instead of snapping.

Sharpened by Hand

Every blade is hand-ground to form the edge, then refined on a whetstone for a polished, clean cut. Ready to use straight out of the box.

Common Questions

Is a Bunka a good all-rounder?

yes, with a more precise tip.

Whats the tip for?

Scoring, precision cuts, piercing packaging on meat trays. Functional, not decorative.

Bunka vs Nakiri. Which one for vegetables?

Bunka does everything a Nakiri does but with a tip for detail work.

Bunka vs chef's knife. Which should I get?

Bunka if you prefer push-cuts and precision (Japanese style). Chef's knife if you like a rocking motion (Western style). Bunkas are shorter, lighter, more agile.

What's The Dark Finish On The Blade?

It's forge scale and its called a kurouchi finish in traditional knife making. A natural layer that forms when the blade is heated during heat treatment. It's not a coating, it won't chip off, and it helps reduce food sticking to the blade.

What Type Of Wood Is The Handle?

Padauk. Padauk is a strong hardwood known for its rich colour and toughness. It has a natural reddish tone that darkens beautifully over time. Because it’s dense and durable, Padauk makes a great knife handle. It holds up to everyday use, feels solid in your hand, and looks better the more you use it. It’s a mix of strength, beauty, and comfort.
